Grommets Anyone?

In my frustration to take care of the vibrating of the motor/tranny, I unbolted the motor from the front engine mount and raised it up with a jack. The clearance above the motor is tight so you can't raise it too much. After revving up the motor, it still resonates at 5000 RPM which leads me to believe that there's an issue with the motor to transmission coupling. If the transmission shaft is slightly off center then the whole thing could wobble.

To try and fix this, I put two 1" rubber grommets around the bolts between the front engine mount and the black motor mount. After re-tightening all the bolts and revving up the engine, it still resonates, but significantly less. I can probably deal with this for awhile. We'll see...

Off to NEDRA...

Hmm - you say you had mounted your motor *directly* to the bar? I assumed that I needed the rubber mounts just like the gas engine did - see here - you can get them from Pelican Parts - part number 039-199-231-M260.

Thanks for the info and links! There isn't enough clearance to mount the original rubber mounts without the top of the motor hitting the bottom of the rear battery box. I had a tough enough time getting two 1/8" grommets to fit! Let me know if you get it to work. Cheers. Tim

Tim,
It would seem that the bigger vibration problem would be between the engine and the engine mount (as opposed to betweem the engine mount and the original motor mount). Putting grommets on the motor mount will only dampen the vibration between the motor mount and the engine mount, but the engine will still vibrate on the engine mount. Some sort of rubber strip or coat on the insided of the engine mount where the engine rests, might dampen the vibration before it even gets to the motor mount, or dampen it further.
